The Marquis Baroncelli is an emblematic character of the Camargue and was a fervent defender of the ecological, traditional and cultural heritage of the Camargue. He also militated for the respect of the gypsy pilgrimage of the Saintes Maries de la Mer.
"Faith, hope and charity" is the credo of the Saintois that is symbolized in the cross of Camargue.
This famous cross was inaugurated in 1926. It is currently located at the Pont de Mort, in Saintes Maries de la Mer. For the anecdote, the current Cross of Camargue is a replica, the original having been stolen.
